Perico set to return in July

Word out from David Street last night was that Brunswick supergroup Perico are in the process of lining up gigs for July.

"Sunday arvos or Saturday night, probably." band spokesman and glamour boy Richard said.
"but we're considering a different number of venue options, all of them in Brunswick, of course."

The return of Perico will be welcome relief to the music-starved, Brunswick-based Fans-of-Perico Lobby Group, who have been pestering the band, since lead singer Tim departed back in March.

Details will be posted shortly.

Lordi Inspire Perico

Finnish sensations and 2006 Eurovision winners, Lordi, have inspired Perico, according to former glockenspielist now xylophonist Richo.

"Yeah, I'm feeling really inspired." he said.

" If bands like Lordi can make it in Europe's premier kitsch band competition, then we're sorted...if we move Europe."

Drummer Col was ecstatic, especially about their lyric writing.

"The arockalypse! How clever is that?"

The band's management declined to comment on suggestions that the band should just fuck off to Finland then.

Greece Wins 6-0

In front of a packed crowd of over 95000 people at the MCG last night, Greece delivered a stunning victory, defeating Australia 6 flares to none.

"I was impressed with our teamwork" said Perico blog reporter and die-hard Greek fan, Damolopolous Wilding.
"I only managed to get one away myself, but it was a beauty!"
The game was marred by a few outbreaks of football, including an Australian goal.
"Yeah, the crowd went wild when Australia scored a goal. That sort of stuff really takes away from what would otherwise have been a great night out." said Damolopolous.
"I just wish the crowd wouldn't cheer so much when there's a goal, it only encourages them."
Pictured is one of Damo's flare targets.

Socceroos in new pay twist

As devoted supporters of the Socceroos, Perico band members and blog reporters will be out in force on Thursday night to cheer the boys onto victory.

However, Perico Blog reporter, Uruguayan-sympathiser and MCG boozer, Damo Wilding, reports that he'll be protesting against the Aussies by supporting Greece on Thursday.

Damonopolous Wildingaki, as he now calls himself, says he intends to start drinking shortly after 4.30pm and continue on "til the Brunswick closes and kicks me out..."

"I'll also be putting down a late night souvlaki, for sure" he told Perico.
"and that'll be on top of my ouzo layer."

"And I'll be wearing a toga and carrying a greek urn."

That naturally prompted perico drummer Col to ask him "What's a Greek urn?"

"Oh, about half that of those overpriced soceroos players!"he told him.

Swim in My Soul: East Finchley Legend Calls it a Day

Perico was saddened to hear of the passing away of East Finchley legend, Sean Keeley last Thursday. Keeley was a guitarist, singer, songwiter, Stella drinker, lover of lots, father of many, and a good friend of Perico members Col and Tim.

All those who ever met Sean remember him. He could charm the socks off any woman and was always the centre of attention in a crowd. Even when his illness was taking hold he lost none of his humour or zest for life.

Trips back to London will never be the same again, mate.

Mobile Phones Cause Brain Tuning

Band members from Brunswick supergroup Perico are all believed to have brain tuners, it was revealed today.

"That's right" said Professor Greg Aronson, bass player. " I can work out any note in my head."
Renaissance man and glockenspielist Richo agreed:
"I use my ear" he said.
Drummer Col denied any need for a tuner, brain or otherwise, though he said he quite liked using other people's ears.
The brain tuning is believed to be the direct result of high mobile telephone bills, which leaves the band members unable to afford any of that fancy-pancy pitch forks or electronic tuners.
"I think the mobile phone companies should do something about this." said Greg.

Blog Reporter Denied Entry

Intrepid perico blog reporter and regular East Brunswick Club Hotel drinker, Damo Wilding, was last night denied entry to the East's new band room's opening night.

"I told them I had my name on the door." said Damo, still visibly upset.

"And I did, cos I'd carved it into the outside of the door with my pen knife last week. I mean, shit, my name is on most doors in Brunswick pubs...especially on the dunny doors in the chick's bogs."

"But the buggers threw me out. Threw ME out. They told me that the gig was sold out. And I told them, yes, they had sold out. Sold out to the corporate-fascist-bureaucracy that puts caps on having fun."

Patrons interviewed after seeing Thee Convicts reported that they'd had a really good time, which unfortunately only added to Damo's chagrin.

Miners Listen to Perico

Brunswick superstar rockers Perico, have moved quickly to correct alleged claims that the freed Beaconsfield miners, Todd Russell and Brant Webb, had been listening to their band on the ipods they were given.

"It's a bit of a misunderstanding." explained Perico sex-symbol and drummer Col.

"What we meant to say was that minors were listening to Perico, referring to the age of some of our fans. We never mentioned the Beaconsfield miners at all. Perico would never intentionally try to mislead the public.

"And anyway, there's far more appropriate songs they should have been given; such as The Jam's Going Underground or that REM song that starts with 'the world is collapsing'.

McLennan No Longer in Steeets of Your Town

Perico were saddened to hear the tragic news of the death of Grant McLennan, songwriter, performer and founding member of the Go-Betweens.

Mclennan's former band-mate and fellow songwriter, Robert Forster said of Mclennan's death:

"The Go-Betweens have made their final album. They have played their final show. We let it rest at that, being very proud of what we have done."

Ghetto moves in on perico

"Ghetto", an urban culture vulture with a particular interest in Brunswick spaces, has joined the Perico family. Ghetto views real and imagined environments in urban settings and reckons perico have a fine attitude to Brunswick culture and philosophy.

Perico welcome Ghetto to the space but reckon he sounds like a bit of a wanker...

Cornish Arms Sale Opposed

News that the Cornish Arms is up for sale has not only freaked out music and drinking fans all throughout Brunswick, but drawn particular ire from the United Nations.

"We don't condone sales of arms to anyone, especially the Cornish" a UN Spokesman told Perico, when asked to comment on news of the 'Cornish Arms Sale'.
"Not unless someone's getting an almighty kickback, in which case we don't care."

The Cornish Arms, location of the first ever Brunswick Council meeting in the 1850's, was also the first pub to "modernise" in Brunswick in 2000, leading the way for Brunswick to set itself up as the premier location for live music in Melbourne.

Roving Perico blog reporter, and Cornish Arms regular, Damo Wilding, was gobsmacked when the for sale sign appeared last week.

"I'm gobsmacked" he said.

A glance through the
Cornish website shows that no gigs have been listed after this Saturday night. Could this really be the death in Brunswick of the suburb's premier live location? Will the UN impose sanctions on the owners? And how can Wicksters ensure that the local live music scene doesn't suffer?

The East Strikes Back

The East Brunswick Club launches its new band room on Wednesday 10th May and it looks like it will be putting on acts Wednesday through Sunday. It's an exciting time for the Brunswick music and drinking scene, already rich with options, but up until now, with the possible exception of the Cornish Arms, missing a premium venue to watch international acts.

The redevelopment of the East is reported to have cost over $300 000 and sees the retirement of the front bar from sport-interupting bands, and the long overdue demise of the TAB. Some of the toothless patrons may (hopefully) even decide to move on.

According to Perico blog reporter and regular East drinker, Damo Wilding, the new room is so big that "if you took every brick and put them in Port Phillip Bay, the bricks would sink."

Estimates vary, but we reckon 500 might be the capacity.
