Loveslaps "turkey slap" the Retreat

Pericoloco just can't get it right. This weekend's Golden Parrot was softly handed to "the PA at the Brunswick" when the real gig of the weekend was Saturday night's Loveslap rock and roll extravanganza at the Retreat. THIS is what pub rock and roll is all about.

Brunswick Hotel Launches New PA System

In anticipation of the upcoming gig-of-the-year, featuring super-acts Perico and Crazy Like a Fox, the Brunswick Hotel has installed a new fangled PA system, put on display last night when Bohab performed.
Brunswick Hotel band booker, Kurt Schwier, told pericoloco that the new system features "an active subwoofer and two active foldbacks PLUS a new 16 channel yamaha mixer with more grunt than anyone has a right to."
Pericoloco reporter and regular Brunswick Hotel drinker Damo Wilding was impressed.
"It's loud. And that's what people in Brunswick want. I've been saying for ages that when you're seeing a band with mates you should have to shout to be heard or it's not turned up loud enough. This fixes the problem.
"Talking about shouting, it's your shout. Another bourban thanks."

Who Stole the Parrot?

Controversy has raged throughout Brunswick after last weekend's decision to award the Golden Parrot to a gig outside of postcode 3056.

The perico blog asked the following ordinary every-day Wicksters, what they thought.

Wayne from Union St.

"I think it's a disgrace. I mean the Golden Parrot IS Brunswick. I feel like a part of my soul is missing."

Dorothy from Albion St

"The Golden What?"

Tabatha from Pickwood

"Yeah baby. Go on, call me. You know you want to..."

Damo from the Retreat

"You guys are losers."

This Weekend in the Wick

As the mid-winter blues kick-in and all the rich rock gods head off to the snowfields, things get a little quieter in Brunswick. There's big gigs on at the Cornish with some old faves, but the boys in Perico have dusted off their passports, got out the tattered old Melways and are heading over to Yarraville tonight (Friday) to see Thrill City Radio, playing with Seconds and The Supporters at the Commercial Hotel. So convention is broken and the Golden Parrot heads out of Brunswick for only the second time ever.

Perico Announces August Dates

Perico will play at least 2 gigs in August, with confirmation of other dates to follow soon, according to their famous blog pericoloco.blogspot.com.

On the 12th of August Perico return at a private function in Smith street, Collingwood, before hitting the Brunswick Hotel in a double-act with Brunswick rockers, Crazy Like a Fox on Saturday August 19th.

This will be the band's first public venture since singer/guitarist Tim departed on sabattical to England in April.

The blog didn't mention any further details but insisted readers continue to check out the site for further details.

pericoloco.blogspot.com has become Brunswick's premier blog for checking out the scene 'round the Wick and is renowned for its reliability, accuracy, informativeness and originality. Pictured is some guy at some festival playing something or other.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond: Syd Barrett Dies

Troubled Pink Floyd co-founder, Syd Barrett, has died, the band said Tuesday. He was 60.
Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965 with Waters, Mason and Wright, and wrote many of the band's early songs. Although he left the band in 1968, well before the release of Pink Floyd's most popular and the all time classic album - Dark Side of the Moon, the band wrote a collection of songs referring to Barrett's troubles with mental illness, including; Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
Barrett had led a relatively reclusive life in Cambridge, UK since leaving the band.

Perico Blog Reporter Arrested During Cup Celebrations

Perico blog reporter, Brunswick icon, renowned local agriculturalist, Retreat drinker, and Italian soccer fan Damario Wilding, aka Damo, is currently being held in custody, according to police sources.
"We've been expecting this for a long time." said Perico bass player, Greg. "It's just that we were expecting him to be arrested for some of his other activities rather than for being a soccer hooligan."
Damo was reportedly obscenely drunk yesterday morning in Lygon Street after Italy's stunning World Cup victory.
Although hardly alone in this respect, Perico drummer Col explains,
"Damo's version of obscenely drunk adds a new meaning to the word 'obscene'. Personally I'm not surprised at all that he's got himself in trouble."
Perico guitarist Richo was more supportive of Damo, finding other scapegoats.
"I don't blame him. I blame society."

What's On in the Wick

Things are really moving along nicely with the weekly pericoloco gig guide - Melbourne's favourite blog for finding out what's going on in Bunswick.

Sime Nugent (pictured left) plays the Cornish Arms on Friday and Saturday but this week we actually received an sms to be added to our gig guide. For that reason we're happy to give this week's Golden Parrot to the Darkest Heartstrings appearing at the Brunny on Friday night. Now, given that the sms came from Liam, who I know from a band called "Lonely Hearts", I'm wondering if the band has changed name or whether this is something different?

Chances are they'll be loud. Very loud.

Psycho's Watts Dies.

Guitarist Robbie Watts passed away on Friday night, following a Cosmic Psycho gig in Bendigo.

Watts first joined Cosmic Psychos back in 1990 and had since become an integral part of one of Melbourne's all-time rock legends.

Cosmic Psycho's Australian tour has been cancelled.
