Perico Celebrate Golden Win

Perico band members were ecstatic when news filtered through that they had won their first Golden Parrot for their upcoming gig at the Brunswick this Saturday.
"This really puts us in esteemed company." said Perico bass player Greg. "I mean I so respect all the previous winners so this is something really special"
Guitarist Richo was more pragmatic and demanded to know if there was any prizemoney.
"I'm not interested in critical acclaim." he told pericoloco. "I'm only in this game for the cold hard cash (eds note: and the chicks, drugs etc) so show me the money!"
Perioc fans were out celebrating all night.

What's On in the Wick

Last weekend was mental (as anything) as pericolocosts crammed in gig after gig as Brunswick rocked. And this weekend is even bigger yet. For example, Ice Cream Hands are playing a rare show at the Cornish on Friday night. If you miss it you can still catch Chuck with the Swedish Cowboys at the Brunswick Green on Sunday arvo too.
The highlight, and this week's surprise winner of the Golden Parrot, is the long awaited return of Brunswick supergroup Perico, playing in a double bill with Crazy Like A Fox at the Brunny on Saturday night. Any self-respecting reader of this blog should be there.

Perico Returns this Saturday

Pericoloco, on advice from its lawyers, would like to make it clear that any suggestion that "Terry" from Blair Street is homophobic is entirely unfounded and that statements to that effect appearing on this blog are entirely the opinion of Damo Wilding and not of pericoloco or the band, Perico.

This Weekend in the Wick

This is a truly remarkable weekend for music in the Wick in a lot of ways. Tonight Perico drummer Col and his lovely wife are heading down to The East in time to catch KIwi gal Sohie Koh (see picture right) who's supporting D. Rogers & the Well-Wishers in their album launch. On Saturday Perico make a return to the live scene in Collingwood, but it's a private function so we can't mention it here, but you could do worse than try to catch The Backsliders at the Cornish playing their 'delta-blues wall of sound' . Sunday is packed with goodies. Former Golden Parrot winner Charles Jenkins appears at the Brunswick Green again at 3pm for free, then Richo and Col head over to the Cornish for a reunion with 70's-80's megaband Mental as Anything, who can now hang this week's Golden Parrot alongside their ARIAs.

Furore over "Girl Next Door"

Brunswick Leader has come under attack from Brunswick icon and reconstructed feminist, Damo Wilding, for displaying pictures of FHM "Girl Next Door" finalist and Brunswick resident Jacinta Bishop.

"I'm really annoyed at the Leader" he told pericoloco. "I understand that they're trying to establish themselves as a UK-like tabloid, but they got it all wrong. Jacinta is on the front page ... cool. But she's then on page 5. It's supposed to be page 3! Can't they get anything right?"

This Weekend in the Wick

Brunswick is back with a vengeance this weekend and there should be no reason for pussy footing around with gigs in Northcote or Yarraville. Apart from the sheer talent on display this weekend, we have listings from 9 different Brunswick venues; the East, the Retreat, Don't Tell Tom, Plan B, the Brunswick, the Cornish, the Lomond, The Spot and the Brunswick Green. There'll also be music at the Noise Bar and the Edinburgh Castle, but we haven't been told about it.

Live music should be just like when you ask for sauce with your pie, ie free and the Wick is crawling with its free entry gigs. Believe it or not, at pericoloco we don't begrudge a cover charge, and venues such as the East and the Cornish bring top quality acts to the Wick and have to charge a door fee. But "free entry" is pericoloco's middle name. So our advice is to spend a shit load on beer, enjoy the ride, and think you've had something for nothing.

This week's Golden Parrot goes to ex- Mad Turk/Ice Cream hander Charles Jenkins (and the Swedish Cowboys) appearing at the Brunswick Green at 3pm on Sunday. Oh yeah, and it's free.

Flyer is "homoerotic" says Blair St Fan

The latest flyer from Perico promoting their upcoming gig at the Brunswick Hotel has been described as "homoerotic" by a man identifying himself only as "Terry from Blair St".
"What's with the three naked men in the sauna?" he asked in a stinging email to Perico drummer Col. "Just what are Perico coming to?"
Band spokesperson, Pericoloco reporter and Brunswick drinker, Damo Wilding was dismissive of the criticism.
"Terry, or whatever his real name is, needs his eyes checked. There are only two naked men in a sauna. One of them is definately female. "
"Criticising the existance of a naked woman on a poster is, quite frankly, un-Australian. And being homophobic, whilst very Australian, is definately not very cool."
The offending poster
