Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965 with Waters, Mason and Wright, and wrote many of the band's early songs. Although he left the band in 1968, well before the release of Pink Floyd's most popular and the all time classic album - Dark Side of the Moon, the band wrote a collection of songs referring to Barrett's troubles with mental illness, including; Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
Barrett had led a relatively reclusive life in Cambridge, UK since leaving the band.
